First published in 1983. Issued once a year, every December. B5 size, each issue contains approx. 200 pages. The languages used are Japanese (with a synopsis in English since Vol. 2) and English, French, and others. We accept submissions from Institute Fellows and other researchers (subject to screening).
It includes articles, research notes, documents, reports on research activities, etc., relating to Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Since Vol.11 (1993), each issue includes a Special Feature. The Journal of Sophia Asian Studies has been changed to as Sophia Journal of Asian, African, and Middle Eastern Studies from No.34.
The latest issue is Vol.41 (2023), featuring “ Considering the Social Structure of Prejudice and Discrimination from the
Standpoint of Area Studies:Possibilities for University Education Beyond gIntercultural Understandingh”.
