私は現代アメリカ史を専門とし、米国とアジア太平洋地域との歴史的な関係を研究しています。第二次世界大戦以降、米国はアジア太平洋地域で軍事力を拡大していき、同時に自由や民主主義といった理念もグローバルに展開していきました。私はこの同時的な拡大について、米国の帝国主義の歴史や、人種・ジェンダー・セクシュアリティの観点から分析しています。特に、日米の植民地支配や軍事占領を経験した、マリアナ諸島と沖縄の人々の戦争・占領体験を研究しています。

I am interested in 20th-century U.S. history, in particular U.S. imperialism and militarism in Asia and the Pacific. I examine how the United States historically expanded its military power while also spreading the ideas of freedom and democracy in Asia and the Pacific. To consider this question, I think it is important to learn from the wartime and postwar experiences of the people in the Mariana Islands and Okinawa, where the United States replaced Japanese rule and occupied for decades after World War II. My research thus critically situates the history of the United States in the context of imperialism in the Pacific.

2年生のEnglish SkillsとEnglish Compositionを担当しています。English Skillsでは、私たちの身近にある様々な社会問題について、批判的に考察し議論できる力を高めていきます。English Compositionは、リサーチ・ペーパーの書き方を基礎から確認していきます。Topics in American Historyでは、現代アメリカ史（19−20世紀）を毎週一つのトピックから学ぶとともに、何が歴史に書かれ、何 / 誰が沈黙させられてきたのかを批判的に議論していきます。American Imperialism in the Pacificでは、太平洋におけるアメリカの帝国主義について、太平洋諸島の人々の歴史的経験をもとに考察していきます。Reading Skillsでは、アメリカ史関連の論文を読み、批評の力をつけていきます。Presentation Skillsでは、自分の主張をわかりやすく、かつ説得力を持って発信・発表する力を多角的に養うことを目指しています。

I teach English Skills and English Composition for second-year students. I also teach courses of Topics in American History, American Imperialism in the Pacific, Reading Skills, and Presentation Skills.
