This study will show college students’ development of compliment response during study abroad. The data were collected using oral discourse completion tasks. After study abroad, the students’ compliment responses changed qualitatively; the level of gratitude was intensified and the responses contained a greater number of words, compared to before the stay and compared with L1 English speakers.
