CHRIST’S PASSION DISPLAYED (CONTINUED 7)

The last part(cont.6) ended with the betrayal of Peter… This part(cont.7) portrays in detail the trial of Jesus before Annas and Caiaphas and the examination before Pilate up to the statement of Jesus that his kingdom is not of this world… Some peculiarities, not mentioned in the Gospels, are given here:

– The examination before Annas takes place after 10 p.m…. Annas has to be awakened.

– The place of the examination is in a “suburb” of Jerusalem, in the “Bethania lane”, where only priests and scribes are living.

– After having Jesus examined, Annas hands Jesus over to his servants until morning. They should “guard” Jesus. They take the “guarding” of Jesus as a chance to mistreat him.

– The process before Caiaphas is held in Jerusalem, after the doors of the city have been opened in the morning. All the statements of Jesus are recorded.

– One of the accusations against Jesus is that he is a “women-seducer”, because he allowed women to follow him and to support him and his disciples, instead of sending them back to their husbands.

– After the verdict of Caiaphas the servants mistreat Jesus again.They beat him and spit at him into his mouth and on his cheeks. The spitting is a specially nauseating event. Their spittle “yellows” the face of Jesus, so that he looks like a “leper”. This “yellowing” comes from the fact that the Jews at that time were “unclean and smelly“ people, because they ate garlic, onions and “well spiced” food. After digestion their spittle becomes yellow and gives an ugly stink.

– The passion of Mary begins. Coming from the place of the passover, she observes together with Mary of Magdala the process before Pilate against her beloved child, having become like a “leper”.

– During the examination before Pilate Jesus states that his kingdom is “not of this world”. The explanation of this statement gives a hint to the “Three Magi” from the orient who came from there to venerate and adore Jesus…
