The basic principle of the Verbotonal System: “Sound comes from Movement” leads us to
suggest that languages are learned the most effectively when we use body movement. This
suggestion was proved by our long experience of French teaching mainly to Japanese
beginners.
This article shows some examples of our Verbotonal-based practice, including nursery
rhymes, songs and short sentences of everyday conversations, all accompanied with
appropriate movements. These movements enable learners to develop the sense of their
own body, and thereby facilitate the acquisition of language rhythm and intonation.
