We present two of the most relevant Guberina’s articles in the development of the verbotonal
method in historical context. The article published in 1985 is the first declaration
that the human body as a whole, rather than the brain and articulatory organs, is the
crucial element in language learning. Guberina (1989) explicates the optimal conditions
of speech, including rhythm and intonation, traditionaly considered as peripheral.
Guberina’s works, aiming to overcome personal limits and to achieve interpersonal better
understanding, are quite significant in our times where global solidarity is undoubtedly
demanded. Nevertheless “the Principle of the Optimality”, proposed already in 1963,
needs deeper and further investigation.
