On October 5, 2023, we invited President Isabel Capeloa Gil of the Catholic University of Portugal to Sophia University for an online event, “The Future of Women’s Leadership”.

After opening remarks by Vice-President for Academic Research Affairs of ‍Sophia University Takashi Okada, the event was moderated by Makiko Deguchi, Director of the Center for Global Education, and took the form of a dialogue between President Gill and Professor Miki Sugimura.
It was a so interesting dialogue about the importance of and barriers to women in leadership positions, including comparisons with Portugal, Europe, and Japan, what measures should be taken to overcome these barriers, and how to combat the isolation felt by being at the top.
