ABSTRACTS

This paper explores non-selected argument (also known as non-core argument, applied
argument, applicative argument) constructions in Mandarin Chinese. This paper reviews
previous syntactic and semantic studies of non-selected argument constructions in various
languages. Due to the fact that one of the previous analyses has not been applied to
Mandarin non-selected argument constructions (MNAC) yet, it is applied to MNAC in
the present paper. As a result, two new types of MNAC are defined, and previous studies
on MNAC are revised. With a focus on Mandarin Chinese, this paper broadens the
descriptive base of non-selected argument constructions in human languages.
