How can the experience of health care providers during the COVID-19 pandemic be used to improve the resilience of health systems? This seminar introduces a multi-country study currently underway in Brazil, China, France, Canada, Mali and Japan that is examining the response of hospitals and frontline health care providers to the COVID-19 pandemic, and shares preliminary findings from the French and Japanese case studies.
The seminar also features two expert speakers who will discuss Health Policy and Systems Research (HSPR), an approach which encourages links between research and actions, and which underpins the multi-country study.
• Professor Lucy Gilson has made a significant contribution to the development of HPSR and has vast experience in undertaking research in health systems in low- and middle-income settings. Prof. Gilson will discuss the definition, development and application of HPSR, and how the approach can be applied to study issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Assistant Professor Katherine Ann Villegas Reyes, representative of the Western Pacific Region (WPR) on the Board of Health Systems Global, will discuss a program that she and her colleagues started last year to facilitate the use of HPSR in the WPR region.
