The Korean War erupted on June 25, 1950 when North Korean soldiers invaded South Korea and lasted until June 27, 1953. During the war 33,629 Americans were killed or listed as missing in action. When the Americans of Japanese Ancestry were called upon by our nation to fight in that war, they willingly and valiantly served their country. By the end of the war, 246 Japanese Americans made the supreme sacrifice to protect the freedom of South Korea, its people whom they had never met and a country they had not known. Of all Japanese Americans serving in Korea during the war, those killed in action died at a rate of over three times the rate of all American soldiers, once again proving their dedicated loyalty to our country. The Japanese American Korean War Veterans pay tribute to the memory of these brave American of Japanese Ancestry, who gave their lives for their country.
