What you may not know are the many other facets of the man who is George Takei- the actor, the writer, the political activist, the public official. Born in California, George spent much of his youth in the Rower and Tule Lake "Relocation Centers." He was one of the 110,000 Japanese Americans detained during World War II. From there George went on to U.C. Berkeley, U.C.L.A., and then motion pictures and television. After Star Trek, George ran for a Los Angeles City Council seat and then spent elven years on the board of directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District.
