In addition to the wide range of lecturers who work with the program on a part-time basis, SGPAS comprises a core group of 14 professors, who are specialists on Asia and Latin America, and offers a systematic, yet flexible, selection of coursework. Further, for the benefit of graduate students as well as the course staff, our faculty is actively engaged in research and education that promotes innovative research in the field of area studies.

Each faculty member brings with him or her extensive experience of living abroad. Moreover, in addition to graduate education, our faculty actively engages in the education of undergraduates at the Department of Asian Cultures, Department of Spanish Language and Hispanic Studies, and Department of Portuguese Language and Luso-Brazilian Studies as well as a variety of specialized research at the Institute of Asian Cultures, Iberoamerican Institute, and Center for Luso-Brazilian Studies. Furthermore, our faculty members are active participants at academic associations both in Japan and abroad.
