解説

アメリカのロサンゼルスにあるテレビ局KCLAの1990年代初頭のニュース番組Prime 9 Newsが、3回に分けて行った日本の労働環境に関する特集。1回目は経済成長期の日本がアメリカを下に見ていたこと、2回目は日本の過労死の状況、3回目は日本人女性をとりまく劣悪な労働環境を伝えている。現在とは状況が違うが、アメリカが日本をどのように見ていたかが分かり興味深い。

Summary

KCLA, an independent TV station located in Los Angeles, California had a newscast program "Prime 9 News" in the early 1990s, and featuring on the work conditions in Japan for three weeks. The program consists of three parts. First, the fact that Japanese, during the period of the economic growth, undervalued the US. Second, the report of "Karoshi," death from overwork in Japan. Finally, the problematic circumstances among of the Japanese working women. Although the present condition is different from the past, it is interesting to learn how the US observed Japan in the early 1990s.
