Abstract  The prospects for caring democracy—fully formed—seem dim everywhere in the world. But a more basic question: is the ground being laid to open these questions about care anywhere in the world –and specifically, in the United States? Prof. Tronto will explore institutional barriers to change, how the oligarchic power of wealth operates in the US, the continuing centrality of racism and its twin of white supremacy, and the roles of technology in changing this political landscape.
