| Report | As early as Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency, consciously or unconsciously, American politics has made use of what is called “spin.” This “spin” is a political language tool that has been used to create a certain image that each user of spin required. Theodore Roosevelt used it in order to show himself as a president who spoke to/for the people. In a later age, Jimmy Carter used spin in order to present himself as a down to earth farmer. In his book Republic of Spin, and in this colloquium, David Greenburg discusses the three groups of people that partake in the spin of American politics: the presidents, the spin doctors, and the critics of spin.
