I have been engaged in regional studies based on politics, economy, history, and culture of the Korean people in East Asia and Northeast Asia, focusing on Korea, the Korean Peninsula, and Northeast China. In particular, I hold a strong interest in the state of the Korean people, who have been living in the northeastern region of China as an ethnic minority and are now widely spread across East Asia. As is the case with all phenomena in today’s globalized world, many related themes and problem areas are in some way connected to us living in Japan.
But how can we understand these connections? The answer is not so simple. This is where academia comes into play. Above all, learning is “learning to ask questions” and “questioning what you learn”. By putting yourself into this continuous cyclical process of “questioning” and “learning” and by persistently practicing, you will be able to see the connection between yourself, the region, and the world. Let’s sharpen our own awareness of the issues and think and learn together to feel the real thrill of academic work. I look forward to your positive approach with endless intellectual curiosity.
