Learning at FGS

Independent Studies

Independent Studies are elective courses beside your regular lectures and seminar classes that you set on your own based on your research theme and plans. With the guidance from your supervisor, you will conduct the research, undertaking literature search and fieldwork to submit a report as a final deliverable. This course consists of 2 credits per semester, and you may take up to maximum of 12 credits within your 2nd to 4th year, at any stage. Independent Studies are the first opportunity for students to utilize the research methods learned in Basic Seminar Class to study the theme that best interest them in Freshmen year. The students make their own plans how to learn and conduct research. This research is unique to FGS as it focuses on the student’s independency, conceptualization, and spirit of challenge.
