People with diverse values and views of life live in the world, and what is normal for “me” may not be normal for others. It may be so obvious that we can feel such things in our everyday life without the need to use the word “global”. However, when you study “area studies”, especially that focuses on a “local” area that is far from the society you are familiar with, you may encounter cultures that are overwhelmingly “different” and be surprised or shocked by them. This process may be even painful sometimes but will make us realize how narrow our perspectives were when we think about our society and our own life. Such experiences of learning from many different “locals” in the world at Faculty of Global Studies may be your “treasure” in your life that may help you in many ways. My lectures aim to bring about such experiences of “surprise” through three key topics; “Southeast Asia” with full of diversity, “religions” especially Islam, and “education” that everybody experiences but not everybody knows deeply about. Let’s learn to find new perspectives together.
