The ability to understand politics is one of the important literacies in the age of globalization. From elections and demonstrations to uprisings, coups d’etats, and terrorist attacks, political events in various places not only race around the world in the form of information, but are also linked to movements in other areas such as economics, society, and culture. Various media carry political information around the world, but it is also true that the overflow of information makes it difficult for systematic understanding. Comparative politics is a discipline that aims to grasp the meaning of these complex global political phenomena in a consistent manner. I hope that you will become political watchers yourselves, using the various analytical tools introduced in class. In order to do so, the tool of language is also indispensable. Most political information is provided in English. For a deeper understanding, you may need to use other local languages. Local knowledge obtained from experiences of local life is also an important factor to enhance your analytical skills. It is up to each individual to set their goal to master, but we welcome all who have a strong curiosity to understand and clarify the phenomenon of politics.
