In the globalized world today, transnational phenomena have direct impact on our lives through various problems such as environmental issues, and food safety. Furthermore, the casual everyday choices we make as consumers of what to eat and what to wear may have a great impact on the lives of producers in distant countries. Even if we do not want to sacrificethe lives of others, such as the producers in distant countries, for our own comfortable and happy life, there is no global government and no political channels to reflect the political will of citizens. My research theme is to find out how citizens express their political will and participate in decision making on a global level, and what are the results. We all live in a global interdependent world connected in some way or other to foreign countries in our daily lives through the consumption of food and clothing and other goods. By learning about the origins of such a global civil society, why don’t we explore a better way of interdependence beyond national borders?
