Engi-shiki: Procedures of the Engi Era, Books VI-XTranslated by Felicia Gressitt Bock
Monographs (1972) pp. 1–190
We published in 1970 Mrs Bock’s translation of Books I to V of the Engi-shiki. Of the many reviewers who hailed Mrs Bock’s work with hearty enthusiasm, nearly every one expressed the wish that she continue translating at least to the end of Book X, thus completing this valuable section concerning kami worship.
Her response to these suggestions is this present addition to the Monumenta Nipponica monograph series; in it Mrs Bock presents, besides the translation, introductions to each of the books translated and an array of careful footnoting to explain the text.
Though the format of this volume differs slightly from that of the first, we have tried to maintain the same attractiveness of presentation which prompted from scholars so much praise for the first volume.
