The Lore of the Chinese Lute (Monumenta Nipponica Monographs, Tōkyō 1940) Addenda and Corrigenda (Part 6)Robert Hans van Gulik

MN 7:1/2 (1951) pp. 300–10

Ten years have elapsed since Monuments Nipponica published my mono- graph on the Chinese lute (hereafter referred to as L.C.L.). During that time friends have kindly drawn my attention to some mistakes and misprints, while I myself discovered other shortcomings. These corrections are listed here, together with some additional data that might be of interest to other workers in this field. However, before listing these corrections and additions, I wish to discuss two questions of a more general nature, viz. first how to render the names of Chinese musical instruments, and second, the problem of the crack-marks in antique Chinese lacquer.
