The Embassy of Captain Gonçalo de Siqueira de Souza to Japan in 1644–1647 (Part 2)C. R. Boxer
MN 2:2 (1939) pp. 512–517
Captain C. R. Boxer’s article printed in Vol. II, No. 1 of Monumenta Nipponica and the relevant documents will be embodied in a book of the same title, which is to appear at Macau in a near future. As some of the Portuguese doments have already been printed and the rest will be published in the forthcoming book, we could abstain from printing the documents as announced in the last issue. But it seemed advisable to publish the original lapanese and Dutch sources hitherto unpublished. In the present number we offer the Nagasaki text, a contemporary Japanese account of the Embassy, while in the tollowing issuc we are going to print the original Dutch account according to the Deshima Diary (July 26th to September 14th, 1647). Both documents, though added as Appendix to the article of Captain C. R. Boxer, have their independent value as important contemporary sources.
