KUNIKO OZAKI

Professor Kuniko Ozaki is Specially Appointed Professor of International Law at Chuo University, Faculty of Law. She served as a judge of International Criminal Court between 2010 and 2019. She was the Second Vice-President of the Court between 2015 and 2018. During her tenure, she sat on various cases including Bemba, Kenyatta (Presiding) and Ntaganda cases.

Professor Ozaki graduated from Tokyo University in 1978 and obtained an M. Phil. in International Relations at Oxford University in 1982. Afterwards, she worked in several positions for the Japanese Foreign Ministry and Justice Ministry. From 2006 to 2009, she worked for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, where she was a Director for Treaty Affairs. She has also worked as a professor of international law at Tohoku University Graduate School of Law and at other universities and has written extensively on international criminal law and law of human rights. Her main written work includes An Introduction to International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law (2nd Edition) (Shinzansha Publisher, 2021).
