52 way, many who have been to the Angkor ruins also provided a great deal of support for fundraising by “crowdfunding” (January to April 2008). Our second financial resource was through conducting lectures, seminars, and roundtable conferences in a variety of places, beginning with Tokyo. Here, while reporting on the current state of Angkor, we also extended a plea for financial relief. The lecture fees obtained by these means was used as a financial resource. Our third source of funding was by assisting in the holding of the Angkor Wat exhibitions in Japan. The first was the “Great Angkor Wat Exhibition” by Toei Co., Ltd., which was held at 6 locations in Japan in 2006 and attracted around 300,000 visitors. The second was the Okada Foundation’s 30th Anniversary “World Heritage Angkor Wat Exhibition, which began at the Paramita Museum in Mie Prefecture and was held at 10 locations in Japan, with around 330,000 visitors. On this occasion too lectures were delivered at the exhibition venue, on the damage sustained as well as the conservation and restoration activities at the Angkor monuments. The fourth was a “Project to acquire Degrees,” and for this I had to strive hard. The project was as follows. On the completion of their on-site education with regard to human resource training, Cambodian students who were candidates for becoming conservation officers were invited to come as graduate students, and acquire degrees at the Faculty of Area Studies of Sophia University. As the first of these a Cambodian graduate student entered on a Japanese government scholarship in 1996, and in the next year 2 students aided by the Shinnyo-en scholarship system arrived in Japan. From then on, each year a Cambodian international student came to Japan with the aim of obtaining a degree. The three Cambodian students just cited had no problem, since International students invited to Sophia University obtained the same reception as government students invited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. That is to say, their living expenses and round-trip travel expenses were paid. However, their tuition at Sophia University was not included,
