I have introduced the team as it was at the time of its initiation, but the titles and affiliations are unchanged. It is essential that the Cambodians themselves study the history of the Angkor dynasty and its affluence through the heritage that has been left behind for them, and speak of their historical value on their own. This is something persuasive, because it calls upon them to write their research papers in English. In training and educating such practical and global researchers and conservation officers at the archaeological sites, we were able to exhibit the strength of the international education at Sophia University, which has always had foreign professors from over 50 nations. The English teachers in the campus purchased special English lessons for the Cambodian overseas students, and these were mainly English-speaking professors at the SJ House (Jesuit monastery). In their second or third year of graduate school, the students returned to Cambodia in order to carry out investigations concerning the subjects of their dissertations, and these in time became the content of their English theses. Due to the fact that they were research studies on archaeological sites located within the jungles of the hinterland of Cambodia, they were counted among the world’s primary dissertations that were written to acquire degrees. The methodology employed which had a Cambodian perspective, enhanced their originality. We first requested the professors at the SJ House to strictly correct the drafts of the English dissertations, and since they did as we instructed, the outcome was a well completed dissertation. As a result of this, as of 2017, eleven students had acquired master’s degrees and eight had acquired doctoral degrees. All these degree holders have now returned to their home countries.
