Their appraisal was that this task of restoration and service by Sophia University, “provided an occasion for Cambodians to regain their ethnic pride in their cultural heritage.” This selfless global effort by Sophia University in seeking to rescue both “refugees and monuments” was valued highly, and consequently led to its attainment of the award. In Cambodia where peace has now returned, I am still involved in conserving and restoring the Angkor monuments. At the same time however this task of mine is no less than a requiem, for my missing Cambodian friends.
