Sophia University’s Department of Economics now offers the Economics in English program for those who are specializing in Economics. The aim of this program is for students to learn economics in English, while nurturing necessary skills for studying abroad or starting a global career in the future. Below is a general outline of a typical 4 year course that students in the Department of Economics follow.

Learn what the study of economics entails in the English taught introductory class to Economics.Establish a foundation in economics by studying microeconomics and macroeconomics in Japanese.Acquire the necessary English skills required by the program in the Academic Communications course.

Register for the program.Specialize in a variety of subjects such as development, environment, trade, finance, policy, and theory in English.Strengthen English skills through courses such as 経済英語 and strive for higher TOEIC/TOEFL scores.Opportunities to study abroad through exchange programs and the like.

Students who obtain excellent grades in courses that are counted towards the program’s credits will be awarded a Level A Certificate of Completion.Students with high scores on the TOIEC, TOEFL, or other similar standardized tests in addition to maintaining stellar grades will be awarded a Level S Certificate of Completion.Utilize the skills and abilities obtained in the program to search for jobs, or choose to continue studies to prepare further for a global career.
