Chulalongkorn University is the oldest and most respected royal university in Thailand, and the foremost in humanities. When first established, the school had only four faculties: Engineering, Public Administration, Arts and Sciences, and Medicine. Today, the university has 19 faculties, offers a total of 540 programs, and maintains a student body of over 38,000. The university has a number of laboratories and centers in which it conducts pioneering research in medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences. Among others, the Faculty of Communication Arts is particularly well-known and offers a number of language programs. The faculty’s Japanese department has been producing graduates in great numbers since its establishment in 1973. Ample greenery and traditional Thai buildings cover the university’s extensive campus, which lies in central Bangkok and covers an area of approximately 1.02 million square meters (educational area only).
