To be honest, I used to have the impression that Thailand is a poor country until I participated in this program. In reality, however, the larger cities of Thailand have well developed infrastructure, people on the streets are dressed in fashionable and elegant clothes, and shopping malls are lined with luxury brand shops. I remember myself struck with surprise to see all these things, which were far from what I had imagined. But the best part of Thailand is the kindness and gentle nature of its people. When I was bewildered not knowing how to use the payphone, a kind local person who just happened to pass by lent me a cell phone. When it gets dark, most Thai men will walk you back to the front door of your dormitory, saying that walking alone at night is dangerous. The lady at the nail salon eagerly tried to hold a conversation with me even though I didn’t understand Thai language and kindly brought me a glass of juice because the weather was hot. People may not have as much money as in developed countries, but everyone was helping each other and living in happiness. I was attracted by this warmness and came to love this country. Most departments of Thai universities provide programs for native Thai students and international programs taught in English, so many of the students (in most departments) can speak English so fluently like a native speaker. This means that you can experience a unique culture different from the Western ones and at the same time learn in proper, authentic English. On top of that, commodity prices are low so you can keep your living expenses low. There are a lot of things that you cannot learn without experiencing at first hand and actually living there. As a matter of fact, Thailand is a country rich in various aspects and I can assure you that it won’t disappoint you.
