Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) is a national university which was formerly a part of the University of Indonesia before seceding in 1963. It is located in the city of Bogor in West Java, approximately 60 km from the capital city of Jakarta. It has nine faculties: Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Fisheries and Marine Science, Animal Sciences, Forestry, Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Mathematics and Natural Science, Economics and Management, and Human Ecology. Within the higher education of Indonesia, IPB is a cutting-edge institution which actively conducts superior education and research, especially in the fields of agriculture and life science. It is also the university at which the 6th president of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, received his PhD in Agricultural Economics in 2004. In addition to the main campus in Dramaga, there are campuses in Baranang Siang, Gunung Gede, and Taman Kencana. The campuses maintain a unique, independent building for each academic department and boast over 20 other fully-equipped facilities including a research center, university farm, animal hospital, student dormitory, and library. Bogor City is also known as “The City of Rain” due to its high annual rainfall. Its mornings and evenings are cool and comfortable, and the city is famous as a summer resort. In addition, the city’s most popular attraction is the Bogor Botanical Gardens, which features over 15,000 kinds of plants from around the world.

Gadjah Mada University (UGM) was established in 1949 with six faculties: Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy; Law, Social and Political Sciences; Engineering; Letter, Pedagogy and Philosophy; Agriculture; and Veterinary Medicine. Today, the University has 18 faculties and is the largest and oldest university in Indonesia, with over 50,000 students, 2,300 teachers, and about 2,250 staff members. It is well-known for its curriculum in tropical agriculture and life sciences. Located in the heart of the provincial capital of Yogyakarta in south-central Java, the vast campus of UGM is surrounded by UNESCO world heritage sites such as the Borobudur and Prambanan temple compounds. Yogyakarta has an ancient flair quite similar to Kyoto and lies at the center of Javanese culture. In addition, nearly 120 other universities call the city home, making it famous as a university town in which students from all over the world gather to form a total student body as large as 300,000 people. Chulalongkorn University is the oldest and most respected royal university in Thailand, and the foremost in humanities. When first established, the school had only four faculties: Engineering, Public Administration, Arts and Sciences, and Medicine. Today, the university has 19 faculties, offers a total of 540 programs, and maintains a student body of over 38,000. The university has a number of laboratories and centers in which it conducts pioneering research in medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences. Among others, the Faculty of Communication Arts is particularly well-known and offers a number of language programs. The faculty’s Japanese department has been producing graduates in great numbers since its establishment in 1973. Ample greenery and traditional Thai buildings cover the university’s extensive campus, which lies in central Bangkok and covers an area of approximately 1.02 million square meters (educational area only).

Founded by Chulalongkorn the Great (King Rama V) in 1889, Mahidol University lies in the heart of Bangkok and is one of Thailand’s oldest educational institutions. What started as Thailand’s first medical school has since gone through many changes and advancements to become the university it is today with 17 faculties, 7 research institutes, and 6 colleges. The Mahidol University International College (MUIC) is the destination of SAIMS International students. Established in 1986, it was the very first English language bachelor’s program operated by a national university in Thailand. It offers an international-style education in English for undergraduate training in the arts and sciences. The school’s mission is not only to provide knowledge in specialized fields, but to nurture capable, balanced individuals who can utilize that knowledge for the good of mankind.

Established by Jesuits, this Catholic university boasts a long history and tradition. Its educational system ranges from an attached elementary school to a full graduate school. ADMU’s lush campus grounds are conveniently located, with various restaurants, cafes, bookstores, and markets lining the surrounding area. Along with University of the Philippines and De La Salle University, it is known within the country as a prestigious, top-class private institution with graduates including the likes of former President Arroyo and many other political leaders. ADMU has a worldwide network of partner universities and sister schools, giving the school’s campus an international atmosphere. This includes Sophia University, with whom an exchange agreement was made in 1981. In addition, the university’s robust security and facilities management ensures a safe and clean learning environment. In the Loyola school, which is attended mostly by undergraduates, students can learn from a wide range of subjects in the fields of humanities, social science, natural science, engineering, and business administration. SAIMS students are also able to receive a variety of hands-on training, beginning with service learning.
