The Film of Almodóvar Volver and Mediterranean Culture Women Representaion Drawn by Pedro Almodóvar and Its messages.

ABSTRACTS

Volver is an eminent Spanish film directed by Pedro Almodóvar in 2006, it contains rich representations of gender issues. However, it is quite difficult to understand the meaning of the representations, because it requires having a deep perspective concerning Spanish culture and its religion. This article aims to analyze the film from a gender point of view: how the roles of wife and mother have been represented in the film and what sort of messages the Spanish directer put in the story. In order to deepen the analysis, it will be explored the ancient mythology found in the Mediterranean area and the how Goddeses in the mythology could affect on the formation of the ideal image of the woman in the area. Also it will be focused on the Roman Catholic Mariology which has made a significant impact on the Spanish society and culture throughout of the history of Spain.
