１９４２年にアメリカ大統領によって発せられた大統領令9066号により、カリフォルニア州にあった日系アメリカ人の畑がどうなったかについてMidori Sperandeoが調査したドキュメンタリー。第二次世界大戦が日系アメリカ人の農業や農家のコミュニティーに与えた影響は大きく、強制収容後農業に戻った日系アメリカ人は少なかった。戦前農業をしていた日系アメリカ人のインタビューを含んでおり、強制収容所での人種差別や市民の自由が失くなり耐えたことも語っている。作家のJan Yanehiroがナレーターを務めており、サクラメントのKVIEテレビ局がプロデュースをした。

Summary

A 2001 documentary film by Midori Sperandeo that investigates what happened to Japanese American farms throughout California, following the passage of Executive Order 9066 in 1942. The film examines the impact World War II had on agricultural industries and farming communities, as fewer Japanese Americans returned to agriculture after the years spent in American concentration camps. Forsaken Fields includes interviews with Japanese American farmers who worked the land before the war as well as former incarcerees and the racism and loss of civil liberties they faced and endured. Narrated by journalist Jan Yanehiro and produced by KVIE public television in Sacramento.
