After World War II, Koito was active as one of the leading English-language writers in Japan and took a key role in resuming the Kyodo News English service in the 1950s. He served such posts as Kyodo's New York bureau chief and deputy managing director of the international department.
On retiring from Kyodo at the age of 55, Koito served as a professor in Sophia University's department of journalism.
Koito produced a series of books on major news agencies of the world and wrote others on the history of newspapers and on various themes in journalism studies.
Koito also trained many journalism scholars from other parts of Asia as dean of the journalism department's graduate course at the private university.
In 1938, Koito became the first Japanese to obtain a master of arts in journalism, completing graduate school at Minnesota State University. In 1939, he joined the New York bureau of the then Japanese national news agency Domei.
